Combat Designer – Bring the Action to Life!

Are you an enthusiastic and passionate Combat Designer? We’re looking for someone like you to join our fully remote studio as we continue to grow. We’re building a complex and dynamic world—and we need your expertise to add some real bite to the game’s combat!

Role Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate combat designer to help us adding some bite to the game’s combat in the complex and dynamic world we are building. You’ll be joining a warm and friendly team who need your creativity to act as a technical designer with a focus on player combat and movement. The design team work closely with code when creating new gameplay mechanics but would also like somebody with blueprint skills they can turn to when prototyping new ideas or finessing existing mechanics.

We would expect any potential Couch Hero to share our love of computer games, which will undoubtedly help inform how you think up solutions to novel gameplay challenges.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • At least 2+ years experience in: games design, game combat and/or player movement in 3D, with particular focus on Unreal blueprints;
  • Unreal experience and familiarity with blueprint system OR Unity experience with good knowledge of implementing combat mechanics (melee and ranged) and who understand how to balance competing gameplay systems;
  • Solid Communication skills: provide clear and concise feedback, able to explain their new systems to both coders and other designers;
  • Ability to build technical solutions for other designers, with an emphasis on agile problem-solving skills.o
  • Passion for the gaming industry and a strong understanding of video game design and mechanics;
  • You are a gamer, regardless of your preferred genres! In fact, the more diverse your gaming experience, the better. What matters most is your passion for games;

Bonus Points:

  • Experience of various game engines.
  • Some experience with other development tools, such as Visual Studio or Blender.
  • An interest in related fields, such as 3D art, level design, or VFX.
  • Some experience with collaboration tools like ClickUp, Jira, Miro, Slack and Confluence.
